The Great billed hermit is part of the Phaethornian family of birds. It is usually medium in size with measurements ranging between 5.1 to 6.7 inches. This measurement includes its beak and tail. It has a dark stripe which goes from the throat to the chin. Its unique name is derived from the fact that it has a huge bill. It looks similar like the long tailed hermit however it has a faint stripe (Sibylle).
