There are some types of speech which require more constitutional
protection than others. For instance, speech aimed at agitating for the
protection of the rights of the minority such as members of the LGBTQ
deserves to be given a higher degree of protection. Although speech
pushing for the No Child Left Behind deserves protection also, it cannot
be given a higher priority than the one touching on the LGBTQ issue.
This state is owing to the fact that, presently, the LGBTQ issue is
faced with a heated debate with different people taking different sides.
Free, uncensored flow of information and images has various associated
advantages. Firstly, it enables people gain easy access to vital
information and images. For instance, the strict censoring of
sex-related information makes it difficult for teachers to teach
teenagers about the potential risks of STDs and HIV as such information
becomes too abstract. Moreover, the free flow of information makes it
hard for dictatorial regimes to give a flattered image about themselves.
There are also various disadvantages associated with this issue.
Firstly, the privacy of people is put at risk if information is allowed
to flow freely without censorship. Additionally, allowing such free flow
means that children are exposed to immoral materials which they can
easily copy.
