The
Ethics of Plagiarism

Plagiarism
in academia and the media and even by celebrities has been a topic of
discussion worldwide. Occasionally the activity is blatant while
other times it may be accidental or due to lack of knowledge about
rules. Assuming credit for the “copy and paste” reuse of
another’s published work or otherwise not providing origin or
attribution for research is unethical and a symptom of misconduct.

You
worked diligently during undergraduate studies to understand
materials and address them using your own words. I am sure it
made you proud to earn a bachelor’s degree that represented
attainment of advanced knowledge. While continuing your
educational journey, let’s take time to analyze your outlook on
cheating and plagiarism

Study
required readings and activities for the module prior to adding your
contribution to the discussion.

Week
1 Discussion Post

Have
you ever witnessed someone taking credit for another person’s idea
or concept? Has it happened to you, a family member or friend? Share
a scenario that that affected you and how you felt about the
unethical behavior you witnessed (or heard about).

This
post should be 2 paragraphs in length (150-200 words). No
research is required; this is a reflection assignment.

Week
1 Interactive Responses to Classmates

1st
Interactive Response:

Select
a post from classmate and provide feedback on a potential solution.

2nd
Interactive Response:

Select
a post from a second classmate and explain how you would approach an
act of plagiarism or stealing credit if you were the student’s
teacher, boss, or colleague.

Each
post should be one paragraph in length (75 words) and must be
substantive in nature.

Week
2 Discussion Post

At
this point you should be fully aware of what constitutes plagiarism
and how to recognize and avoid it. Share some tips and advice
that you learned which will improve the way you write and ensure that
your voice is heard loud and clear even when analyzing complex
materials. The post should demonstrate a full understanding of
the concept based on academic research. Share any concerns you
have about the rules surrounding what constitutes plagiarism.

This
post should be 2 paragraphs in length (150-200 words). Since you
are engaging in research, be sure to cite in the body of the post and
add a reference list in APA format.

Week
2 Interactive Responses to Classmates

1st
Interactive Response:

Explain
how a post by a classmate was helpful to your understanding of
plagiarism and how it plays into your success in the classroom.

2nd
Interactive Response:

Pick
a second student’s post concerns and suggest resources to
expand scope of knowledge on the topic.

Each
post should be one paragraph in length (75 words) and must be
substantive in nature.

In
your own words, respond to the discussion and comments of
classmates. Grades will be based on effectual, concise, and
interactive feedback. The excessive use of quotes will directly
impact performance since this indicates a lack of comprehension and
shows that you may not have mastered the concepts.
